Review

* "Snarky banter, a clever setup, and a diverse and well-drawn cast elevate this rollicking, bombshell-laden adventure. Graudin's intricate worldbuilding brings the distant past and far future to vivid life. Readers who like their science fiction shot through with humor will be enthralled."―Publishers Weekly (starred review)* "The story is well paced, and...deals with issues of trust, romance, and duty. This would be an excellent addition to most high school collections."―VOYA (starred review)* "Invictus is a creative, mesmerizing adventure... From start to finish, it will captivate readers with unique characters, intriguing concepts, and an adorable red panda. It would be a great disservice to this generation of action-packed cinema to dismiss this novel without attempting to bring it to the big screen... Invictus is a ride that no young adult reader should miss."―VOYA Teen Reviewer (starred review)"This is high adventure with a literary bent, and it's held together by a lovable, ragtag crew-turned-family that wouldn't be out of place in Firefly. A well-researched, thoroughly enjoyable romp through the ages."―Booklist"Swoonworthy sci-fi: that's something that doesn't come along every day."―Bulletin of the Center for Children's Books"A madcap, vivid time-travel tale with a strong ensemble, both indebted and cheekily alluding to Doctor Who and Firefly."―Kirkus Reviews"Graudin weaves the past and future seamlessly together into an epic canvas spanning generations. An incredibly intricate, brilliantly paced, masterfully written journey."―Marie Lu, #1 New York Times bestselling author of The Young Elites"I've loved all of Ryan Graudin's books, but I love this one the most. Time-traveling thieves skipping through history! Mind-bending in the best way."―Laini Taylor, New York Times bestselling author of Daughter of Smoke and Bone and Strange the Dreamer"If the crew from Firefly somehow wound up as teenagers on the TARDIS and had to solve a Fringe-type mystery before time literally disappeared, you'd have something like Invictus."―Beth Revis, New York Times bestselling author of the Across the Universe series and A World Without You"A nonstop thrill ride from start to finish--I raced through Invictus at top speed! With this book, Ryan Graudin proves she can conquer any genre she turns her hand to. Fun, cheeky, high-stakes, and totally immersive, this story is wildly imaginative and brilliantly original. Jump on board without hesitation: You'll love Invictus."―Amie Kaufman, New York Times bestselling author of the Illuminae Files

After finishing with the utter splendidness that was Wolf by Wolf and Blood for Blood, I couldn't wait to read Ryan Graudin's latest release, and I was not disappointed. This book was a delightful fast-paced romp through historical highlights wherever and whenever they may be found, and I was willingly and cheerfully swept along for the ride at every turn. I thoroughly enjoyed the dynamics of the crew, and especially liked reading a YA book without the seemingly obligatory love triangle. The relationships were real and relatable, but not less compelling for their substance.Time travel with a hefty dose of humor and optimism, circa the Flash or Dr. Who, made this my favorite YA book of the year.

This was the best book I have read in a long time! Fast pace does not let up, quirky futuristic slang was easy to adjust to. The story was unlike any of the formulaic stories on time travel. The only flaw I found was the name of the book. Invictus is the name of the ship, but it is also the name of a famous poem and movie, which are not related to this story at all!!! A better name would have been the "Ab Aeterno", or "Farway"

Oh wow what a ride?! So gripping from the first page and the group dynamics is spot on! Time travel, adventure, humor and drama all wrapped into an breath taking story! I LOVE anything by Ryan Graudin now and this was the first book I read from her!

I don't typically write reviews but... oh my gosh!! This book was beautiful! The way the author wrote with her vivid details and impeccable vocabulary was absolutely breathtaking! I found myself pausing to just admire certain descriptions. And the characters - she made them all engaging and unique of each other. But the entire storyline/plot was one of the most creative I've seen in a long time. I loved every page of this book - absolutely amazing and highly recommend!

4.5 starsRyan Graudin is a fantastic story teller. This was an incredible time traveling adventure story with a cast of characters that had one of the best group dynamics that I have ever read. I look forward to reading more by her.

Loved this new book by Ryan Graudin! Wonderful characters and a truly mind-bending plot. Definitely recommend.

I had originally borrowed this book from the library, but it was so good that I needed to own a copy (and re-read it!) I love the twists and turns, but it was the crew that made the book so great. Each character is so fun. The writing is amazing! I've been a fan of Ryan's for a long time and this book doesn't disappoint.

This really is a *HASHING amazing book. Through the storytelling by Ryan Graudin and sheer expanse of time traveled, it feels epic. I pre-ordered 'Invictus' based on the recommendations of the other authors of the book, the intriguing one-liner, and feeling that the title implied a novel of immense proportions and it it didn't disappoint me.It may only be coincidental that my son's name is Roman, but I happen to have a penchant for stories that include venturing to Ancient Rome, and combine that with time-travel, a red panda, Rubik's cubes, as well as teleportation, and this is a must-read. The story is hard to explain in a neat little nutshell - and I can't even imagine how the author Ryan quickly describes this book to people! One way would be to say that 'Invictus' is about a group of time-traveling-treasure-hunting-teenagers who basically end up saving the world from history and time fading away into nothingness. Make sense? Probably not (I guess you will have to read it).I loved the crew of whimsical characters, and those wonderful chapter titles! Sometimes I'd get lost in the amazingly imaginative techie talk that Graudin somehow came up with for this book, but that's a little because I'm still a sci-fi newbie (it happens a lot with many sci-fi/fantasy novels). I have to reread to grasp it all, but it feels like ultimate proof of the incredible world-building that has been accomplished. It's so complex and rich, that a second read is necessary to absorb it all and bring more of it to life.It also turns out I have forgotten all my Latin from my boarding school days but I was delighted to be transported back to the Coliseum that I've visited, except that it's now in use and there are gory scenes described. Graudin also transports us to places like Vegas and back to the Titanic. All of that is a real treat. Since I have a movie background, I just couldn't help but envision this as a movie (sorry, Ryan) because the imagery and storyline just scream 'film it' to me! Basically that just means it was so effective in terms of me visualizing the words I was reading into something vivid in my head. Read it and tell me how cool the costume and set design would be...Anyway, I was kind of glad to read that this will be a standalone novel without any followup (some people may not agree). It's so beautiful with its ending, leaving me to imagine what's next. There's so much that goes on for these characters, you trust that they will go on the right path. This book really is a marvel and a real success for Ryan Graudin, who has made a side step away from her grittier other novels. I hope she writes more in this vein. Everyone needs to read this, NOW.*And HASHING needs to be the next new word in everyone's vocabulary. It was just one of the cool words Graudin came up with!
